First Entry

Hello.....This is my first experience in blogging, so be gentle. This is a unique way of documenting the journey from soup to nuts. My goal is to note major events and publish photos for family and friends across the country.

I found out last week that my wife of 5 years is pregnant. We have been trying to have children for 3 years, but without success. After nearly a year of tests and treatments, we tried IVF at the end of October.

The injectable medications were uncomfortable at best...I couldn't believe how positive her attitude was this time. She never complained....Even while getting IM shots of progesterone. She responded wonderfully to the medication this time. A grand total of 7 eggs were retrieved. All but 2 were sucessfully fertilized. On October 30, 2004 3 embryos were transferred. I think having her mother around that weekend made her much more relaxed.

The next 10 days passed much quicker than we expected....I think we were expecting it to fail again...It would be easier to accept that way. She was scheduled to go to the doctor for a pregnancy test on November 12, but we did get a little impatient. She took a home test on November 10 and passed with flying colors....We had to be causiously optimistic. An HCG boost a week before could cause a positive test. For fun, she took (and passed) another test on the morning of Noveber 12.

The real test at the doctors also was positive, with a HCG level of 171. They were looking for a level above 50. She had to take another test on November 16....still positive with an HCG level of 1,253. According to a couple of websites, for being 20 days pregnant, a level between 522 and 1,690 is good.

The ladies at the office are very excited for us. For fun, they did an ultrasound on November 16. There was definately one baby and possibly a second.

First ultrasound looks good....They can even type! Posted by Hello

According to the Yahoo pregnancy calendar, the heart should start beating today. We have an appointment for another ultrasound on November 23.

That's all the news that's fit to print for now.
